Hope for Haiti

Soon after the devastating earthquakes hit Haiti, I learned of 2 amazing sisters from Pittsburgh that have devoted their lives to helping the orphans of this grief-stricken country for over 8 years.  I was blown away by their passion and dedication.  [Check out their non-profit Haitian Orphan Rescue!]

Because this is something so close to my heart, I was absolutely honored to be able to make a cake for their second annual fundraiser, Ti Kanaval, at Whim nightclub in Station Square.
The bottom tier is the Haitian flag-- french vanilla sour cream cake with tri-berry filling and fresh raspberries. vanilla buttercream frosting.  The middle tier is hands of hope-- dark chocolate sour cream cake with hot fudge filling and chocolate fudge buttercream.  The top tier is a map of Haiti-- pineapple cake with coconut buttercream.
This was such a fun and inspirational cake to make.  Thanks for the opportunity ladies and good luck on future endeavors!

Super Wedding

This past weekend I got the absolute pleasure of making a surprise groom's cake after my favorite childhood video game-- Super Mario Brothers!   I LOVE a challenge and this proved to be one... especially when the 9 inch cake toppers showed up...

but it was so much fun and I'm glad it was able to work out like I pictured it:

I was definitely tempted to break my Nintendo out to do "research."  Unfortunately I was too busy... Good thing I have every inch of every level permenantly burned into my mind.  ;)

The groom was surprised and it was fun to see the reactions of people at the wedding.
So fun! Thanks for letting me be part of your special day guys! smile
