Coach Purses and Halloween Curses

This week I had a birthday cake for a guy whose wife likes Coach bags.  I have never made a purse cake before and was pretty apprehensive.  The task proved to be as difficult as I originally thought.  The weather was going crazy-- beautiful one second and a tornado warning the next-- resulting in terrible humidity.  The fondant bubbled and peeled right off of the cake and it was a leaning purse... However, after many tears and my lovely boyfriend running back and forth to the store for me at 1 am, the end result was beautiful.

I love how it turned out but I was glad to see this one go! Because of all the things that went wrong, I feel better prepared for next time.

Baby Shower Cakes

I was honored to be able to make a baby shower cake as a surprise for my friend Des' shower. I decided to make building blocks... because that's adorable! I made devil's food cake with coffee buttercream icing.
Accents are made out of fondant, including baby booties, a pacifier, rubber ducky, and sleeping baby on top.
What a fun cake to make! It was a big hit at the shower (and tasted great too).

A few weeks later, I made a cake for a coworker's baby shower.  I wanted to do something that was girly and modern. The party was on the smaller side, so I went with a 3 layer 9 in round.

The cake was devil's food with fudge filling and chocolate fudge buttercream frosting, covered in fondant.

Steelers Cakes

Apparently there's a big market for Steelers' cakes in this area (i'm not sure why that should be a surprise...)
I've had more requests for those than anything else. Which is awesome, because it just so happens to be something I'm pretty passionate about.
Here's the first birthday cake--

my favorite part is the terrible towel :)

this of course led to another--

and another--

I love it!

So i decided to start a cake business...

I've been wanting to make cakes for a living for as long as I can remember. I finally got around to doing it...
It began with a Starry Night cake Laura and I made for Natalie's Van Gogh themed bridal shower.

with sunflower cupcakes of course!

and just like that the business is under way :)
Prices for cakes are available upon request-- it kind of all depends on what's being done, how big, etc.
